Where does your Furniture come from?

Where does your Furniture come from?

Fast Fashion Furniture

You may have heard of “fast fashion”: the “American” companies paying appallingly low salaries to women(& even children!) in countries like Bangladesh & India where the working conditions are poor & even dangerous. Companies like H&M & Forever 21 take pride in their “low” prices, but take no consideration of the impact on the environment around them or the humans they employ. (The True Cost documentary on Netflix is extremely eye opening for more information on this topic!)

You may have already come to know these things about your clothes, but what about your furniture?

Yes, there is such a thing as “fast furniture”.

Locally sourced Hardwood Cherry
Not surprisingly, most of what goes into the garbage is akin to the “fast fashion” cousin, unethically made & certainly not made locally.
This is not to make you feel guilty, as it is nearly impossible in our consumerism based culture to never purchase these items, & we’ve all walked through the aisles of Hobby Lobby & seen that cute piece that worked perfectly for our space.

Most of this furniture is made overseas with toxic materials.

Most even made in factories with underpaid employees.

The worst part? This furniture only lasts a few months, a couple years at most, before ending up on the curb.

It may be a good price, but at what cost?

At Clines Crafted, we’ve changed our mindset about what quality furniture is & how we want to craft it.

Clines Crafted Woodworking Craftsmen Crafting one of our handmade pieces

Over the past two years, we have made it our mission to source our materials for our pieces from local & ethical sources.

Our real wood is sourced from a local lumberyard who gets his lumber from Kentucky & surrounding states like Indiana & Tennessee.

Slowly we have been making the switch to companies for our paints & stains that are non-toxic & use ethical practices for their products. These businesses, like Rubio Monocoat, use environmentally safe materials that you can feel safe putting around your children, pets, & yourself.

Is this the most cost “effective” way of building furniture? Certainly not. But we’ve seen the damage of what cutting corners can do to the integrity of furniture, not to mention our society as a whole.

Our care for our customers & our passion for building furniture that will last you a lifetime is what leads us to use this knowledge as a catalyst for change here at Clines Crafted Woodworking LLC.

We want to help our wonderful followers gain more knowledge about what goes into building the furniture for their homes. We want to help YOU create your dream custom piece that will stand the test of time.
